Flights

We will be flying to Cairns on Qantas from Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch via Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.

Departing New Zealand

Domestic connecting flights:

We recommend you check in at least 1 hour prior to your domestic departure flight.
If you are travelling on a New Zealand domestic flight that is NOT issued on your international ticket, you will need to collect your luggage after your domestic flight and check in for your international flight separately.
Please note that if you are holding separate tickets, only your domestic luggage limit allowance will apply, not that of your international airline carrier. On Air New Zealand, this is 1 piece at 23kg.
If all of your flights are on one ticket you (and your luggage) will be checked through to your final destination and you will receive all of your boarding passes at check in.

International Check-in:

Check in opens approximately 2 and 1/2 hours before each flight. As the check in area can be congested we strongly recommend you check in as early as possible and at least 2 hours prior to flight departure.
You will need to present your passport.
Please ensure Qantas check your bags all the way through to Cairns and you are issued with both boarding passes.

Arriving Australia

On arrival into your Australian International airport, which will be your first international gateway point, if you are eligible for e-gate please proceed to the self service kiosk to complete your immigration formalities.  Then make your way to the baggage claim area where you must collect your bags.

Make your way out into the arrival halls and follow the signs to Qantas Domestic Transfer desk. You will then be required to recheck/drop off your bags before you take the courtesy bus to the domestic terminal (there is no bus required in Melbourne, it is all one terminal).

Departing Australia

At Cairns Airport, please ensure Qantas check your bags all the way through to New Zealand. You should be issued both boarding passes.
On arrival into Sydney or Brisbane domestic airports, as you are connecting onto an international flight, you will not need to collect your bags and can make your way to the international terminal via the courtesy airport transfers on offer.

Qantas Frequent Flyer

Qantas flights are eligible for frequent flyer points.  During the registration process, please advise us of your Qantas frequent flyer membership number.
Although these details will be entered into your booking, we still recommend that you reconfirm your frequent flyer details with the airline at check-in to ensure it has been correctly noted in your booking.

Seating

C & I Travel Specialists requests couple/family seating at the time of ticketing, however the final allocation of seats is exclusively managed by Qantas.

Luggage Allowance

When travelling on Qantas Airways the following luggage allowances will apply:
  • Economy – total baggage allowance up to 30kg per person
  • Business – total baggage allowance up to 40kg per person

Total dimensions for each piece must not exceed 158cm (62in). Dimensions for checked baggage are calculated by adding together the width, height, and depth of the piece of baggage.

In addition to the above, you are permitted to carry-on luggage measuring no more than 115cm and up to 7kg per piece
  • Economy – one carry-on bag with combine total of 7kg plus one small item, like a handbag or thin laptop
  • Business – two carry-on bags with combine total of 14kg plus one small item

For tickets issued with an allowance in kilograms only, there is no restriction on the number of pieces within the weight allowance for international travel.

Note: As we have purchased international and domestic flights, and these will be on the same ticket, the international checked baggage allowances apply to the domestic flights too.

All contents of your baggage need to be packed securely and appropriately. Do not pack valuables, essential medication, or important documents in your checked baggage.

You must ensure each item of checked baggage is labelled with your name, address and contact details. We recommend that you lock your baggage. However, it may be necessary for governments, airports, or their contractors to open and inspect your baggage as part of the security screening process. If your baggage is locked, and you aren’t present when it’s necessary to open it, the lock may be broken by security screeners.
Please note you can only carry liquids, aerosols or gels in your hand luggage if each container is no more than 100ml, and these containers collectively can fit comfortably into one re-sealable, 20cm x 20cm (or smaller) transparent plastic bag. Remember any scissors or sharp objects must be packed in your checked luggage.

Any extension travel with other airlines, or on a separate ticket, will be subject to the luggage allowance of that flight/airline.
