The currency used Australian Dollars (AUD).

Electricity

Electricity is supplied throughout Australia at 240 volts (50 hertz) with three pin plugs, which is the same as New Zealand.  You will not require a travel adaptor for your electrical appliances.

Weather

With plenty of sunshine, beautiful warm seas, refreshing sea breezes and a warm climate all year round, Port Douglas weather is hard to beat.

Port Douglas weather has 2 distinct seasons: a winter period of warm temperatures and low rainfall, and a summer period of balmy temperatures and high rainfall.

Winter (Dry season) starts in May and finishes in October offering sunshine, fresh breezes and relatively low humidity, with temperatures ranging between 20-28°C

What Should I Pack?

We suggest you dress in layers and pack light, clothing such as shorts and t-shirts as well a light jacket as you will spend a lot of time outdoors during the day on our group tours. Sneakers or comfortable, flat footwear, hat, sunglasses are also recommended for the activities.

Duty Free

The following items may be brought into Australia

  • 25 grams of tobacco in any form (cigarettes, loose leaf etc) equivalent to approximately 25 cigarettes, plus an open packet, for each traveller 18 years or older.
  • 2.25L of alcohol. This includes all alcoholic beverages in accompanied baggage are included in this category, regardless of where or how they were purchased. You must be 18 years or older.

If you are aged 18 years or over, you can bring up to AUD900 worth of general goods into Australia duty free. If you are under 18 years of age the limit is AUD450.

Phone

As it can be expensive to phone New Zealand using the phone in your room, we would suggest using your mobile phones with roaming capabilities.  Please check with your mobile phone provider for call and roaming charges.

 

Time Differences

Port Douglas is 2 hours behind New Zealand e.g., at 6:00am in Port Douglas, it is 8:00am in New Zealand (same day).

Health

Cairns has medical services and major hospitals capable of administering advanced and specialised medical care. The region also has ambulance, fire and police services. In-hotel general practitioners (GP) are available for visits.
